Chromosomal microarray has its own turnaround, generally faster than culture-based karyotyping because it does not require cell culture. Targeted testing for a specific inherited condition varies considerably depending on the test. Ask your unit for their expected timeframe for each test being done on your sample, so you know what to expect and when. Two practical points: Ask whether you will receive the rapid result as soon as it is available, or whether the unit waits to give all results together. Practice differs, and if you would rather know sooner, say so. Ask who will contact you, how, and what happens if you have heard nothing by the expected date. Occasionally cells fail to grow and a repeat sample is needed. This is uncommon but worth knowing is possible. The wait is hard. Establishing the process in advance — who calls, when, and what happens next in either scenario — makes it more manageable than waiting without knowing what to expect.
