Is PGT-A covered by insurance?
Coverage varies considerably and cannot be answered generally — it depends on your insurer, your policy, and where you are being treated. In India, insurance coverage for fertility treatment is limited and varies widely between policies. Many policies exclude IVF entirely; where IVF is covered, genetic testing add-ons are frequently excluded separately. What to establish before starting: Whether IVF itself is covered under your policy. Whether PGT-A is covered, and whether it is treated as a separate item. Whether there is a waiting period, a cap, or a limit on cycles. Whether pre-authorisation is required. Ask your clinic for a complete written cost breakdown, including: The biopsy itself, per embryo or per cycle. The laboratory testing, and whether it is priced per embryo — costs can rise substantially if you have many embryos. Freezing and storage. The frozen transfer cycle, which PGT-A makes necessary. What happens to the cost if no embryo passes testing. That last point matters. PGT-A adds cost regardless of outcome, and if no embryo is transferable you will have paid for testing and for a transfer that does not happen. Given that PGT-A has not been shown to increase live birth rates for most patients, the cost is worth weighing carefully rather than accepting as a standard addition. Ask what it would achieve in your specific situation before agreeing to it.
