Brown discharge after Meprate — is it normal?

Brown discharge is simply older blood. Blood darkens as it oxidises, so anything that has taken longer to leave the uterus appears brown rather than red. After a progestogen course it is common at the start or end of the bleed and is not a problem in itself. What matters is what follows. If the brown discharge leads into a normal period, that is the expected pattern. If it is the only bleeding you get and no proper flow arrives within about ten days of stopping the medication, see your gynaecologist — it may mean the lining was too thin to shed properly, which is worth understanding rather than repeating the course. Also worth a call if the discharge has an unpleasant smell, comes with pelvic pain or fever, or continues for weeks — those point to infection rather than normal shedding. And take a pregnancy test if there is any possibility, since light brown spotting can occur in early pregnancy.
