Ejaculating within 1 minute — is it normal or a problem?

Consistently ejaculating within about a minute of penetration meets the clinical definition of premature ejaculation — described as lifelong if it has been the case since you became sexually active, and acquired if it developed later. Three things worth knowing. It is common. A substantial proportion of men experience it at some point, and it is one of the most frequently reported male sexual concerns. It is not rare and it is not a sign of any underlying weakness. It does not affect fertility. Sperm is deposited regardless of timing, and as long as ejaculation occurs in the vagina, conception is not impaired. If you are trying to conceive, this is not the obstacle. It responds well to treatment. Behavioural techniques such as the start-stop and squeeze methods, pelvic floor exercises, and addressing performance anxiety all have reasonable evidence. Prescription options exist where those are insufficient. Acquired PE in particular often has an identifiable cause — anxiety, relationship factors, or occasionally a medical one such as thyroid dysfunction or prostatitis — which is worth looking for. Please see a urologist, andrologist or sexual health specialist. Avoid over-the-counter delay sprays if you are trying to conceive, as topical anaesthetics may affect sperm.
